Participation of the Mine Action Centre in the meeting of the Мembers of the Association of Diving Contractors International ADCI Middle East Chapter Meeting in Fujairah

The Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia was invited to participate in the meeting of the members of the ADCI Middle East Chapter Meeting, as a member of the Association of Diving Contractors International – ADCI, which was held on February 22, 2024 in Fujairah (United Arab Emirates).

At the meeting of the ADCI Middle East Chapter Meeting, they discussed the challenges and expectations in the selection of diving contractors for the maintenance of underwater systems, diving safety, underwater demining, the impact on the environment, as well as the importance of diving using original products and purchasing of equipment from authorized distributors.

Director of the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia, Bojan Glamočlija, held a presentation on “Underwater Demining in the Republic of Serbia – Results, Challenges and Plans”, introducing the participants to the Center’s experience in survey, developing projects, quality control and project management of demining projects on land and in the water – clearance of the explosive remnants of the war in Serbia.

Bojan Glamočlija pointed out that, bearing in mind the interaction of mine action and infrastructural development in the context of the current expansion of the construction industry and the need to create conditions for the safe execution of infrastructure projects, both on land and in water, which are a prerequisite for future investments in the Republic of Serbia, it is necessary to improve and strengthen the capacities of the Republic of Serbia in the field of underwater demining.

The Director of the Center was awarded the book “Working Underwater: The Story of the Commercial Diving Industry” by Mike Cox, as a sign of gratitude.

These meetings provide an excellent platform for experts in this field, members of the ADCI and interested parties who wish to connect and contribute to the development of the underwater diving sector with the latest information on achievements, with presentations of new projects and results in the diving industry of underwater demining.

As part of the visit, working meetings were held with representatives of the Port of Fujairah and the Port of Dubai, interested parties for training, as well as a meeting with manufacturers of diving equipment “SmartDives”, representatives of oil and other companies.

As a reminder, in November last year, in order to improve and strengthen the capacities of the Republic of Serbia in the field of underwater demining, the Mine Action Centre, as an associated member, became part of the ADCI community, which promotes the highest possible level of safety in the practice of commercial diving and underwater operations, as and appropriate and adequate personnel training.
