Emergency Management Day Marked with Ceremonial Academy
A ceremonial academy held at the National Theatre in Subotica to mark the Day of the Emergency Management Sector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia brought together senior officials, representatives of institutions, and members of the emergency services. During the event, Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić and Head of the Emergency Management Sector Luka Čaušević commended firefighters-rescuers for their courage and successful response during an exceptionally challenging year.

The event was also attended by Bojan Glamočlija, Director of the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia, as well as senior government officials and representatives of national, provincial, and local institutions.
Members of the Emergency Management Sector carried out more than 30,000 interventions, including more than 22,000 fire-related incidents, and rescued more than 800 people. The year was marked by major fires in the Deliblato Sands, on Mount Stolovi, and on Suva Planina.

Minister Dačić stressed that greater investment in personnel, equipment, and machinery is essential to further improve the safety and security of citizens.
“We need more people. We need machinery, but there can be no machinery without people on the ground fighting fires. These are firefighters-rescuers, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We need to recruit as many of them as possible, because they are the ones fighting fires on the ground. A fire cannot be extinguished from the air, nor can it be dealt with solely through heavy machinery. That is why, at events like this, I want to see the people I met in the field in the Deliblato Sands. People are the foundation of everything,” Dačić said.

During the ceremonial academy, commendations were presented to members of the Emergency Management Sector who had distinguished themselves through their work and dedication, as well as to representatives of international teams that provided assistance to their Serbian colleagues during major fires.
A fundraising evening was also held in the Ceremonial Hall of the National Theatre, where the results of a donor campaign organized by the Emergency Management Sector were presented. The campaign aims to raise funds for the construction of a sensory room at the “Kolevka” Home for Children and Youth in Subotica.
Part of the funds raised will be allocated to the “Safe Home” programme, under which between 2,000 and 3,000 smoke detectors are planned to be procured and installed in the homes of elderly and mobility-impaired citizens, as well as in the homes of individuals requiring additional protection.
