SMAC Participation at Seminar “Protection of Rights and Prevention of Discrimination of Persons with Disabilities”

On December 22, 2023, representatives of SMAC participated at seminar “Protection of Rights and Prevention of Discrimination of Persons with Disabilities”, which was organized by the National Academy for Public Administration, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission in Serbia.

The seminar discussed the terms and different concepts of access to persons with disabilities, discrimination and elements of discrimination, as well as language and terminology that ensure equality, and international and national standards. The importance and methods of assertive communication were discussed and an overview was given of the legislative framework of the Republic of Serbia, the relevant practice of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and court practice in procedures for the protection against discrimination of persons with disabilities.

The Republic of Serbia is a signatory to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (Ottawa Convention), by which, among other things, it undertook the obligation to assist mine victims.

SMAC is dedicated to the implementation of mine action activities aimed at improving the position and rights of persons injured by mines and ERW.

In the previous period, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, with the financial support of the Republic of Korea provided through the ITF Enhancing Human Security, one mine victims assistance project was implemented – rehabilitation and medical care. The plan is to intensify the cooperation already started and implement new mine victim assistance related projects.
