Implementation of Project Sunken German Fleet Project at Prahovo

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, with the support of the European Investment Bank, prompted by the need to remove obstacles and dangers to navigation, initiated the launch of a project to remove 21 vessels that directly affect navigation safety.

In order to provide data on the type of explosive remnants of war, their condition, quantity, place, depth and position on, inside and around each individual shipwreck of the sunken German fleet, the SMAC developed the project of ERW protection during the removal of 21 sunken vessels in the Danube River near Prahovo”.

As part of the mentioned project, a minesweeper of the German fleet, which was sunk back in 1944, was successfully removed and cleared of explosive remnants of war.

This undertaking, which includes advanced underwater exploration and demining techniques, represents a significant step towards freeing the entire Black Sea Basin from ERW hazards, via the Danube River.

The recovery of 2 ships and the removal of 2 more ships from the required elevation of the waterway is an important achievement in the context of safely executed works.

This step is part of a broader plan that involves the continuation of work on the removal of explosive remnants of war, with a comprehensive assessment of the project’s impact on the environment.

The contractor is a consortium of companies “Aqua mont service” LLC and “Millennium team” LLC.
