Director of the Serbian Mine Action Centre Participated in the Serbia–U.S. Strategic Dialogue in Washington

The first session of the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America was held on 17 July 2026 in Washington, D.C., establishing a new institutional framework for further advancement of bilateral cooperation.

The session was co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, and the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, with the participation of senior officials from both countries.

The delegation of the Republic of Serbia included Bojan Glamočlija, Director of the Serbian Mine Action Centre.

The discussions addressed issues of importance for the further development of bilateral relations, including the strengthening of political, economic, and security cooperation, energy cooperation, regional stability, and other areas of mutual interest.

As part of the Dialogue, the U.S. Department of State announced an additional allocation of USD 1.5 million to support humanitarian mine action in the Republic of Serbia, intended for the implementation of projects aimed at clearing areas contaminated by explosive remnants of war (ERW).

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to establishing the Strategic Dialogue as a permanent framework for bilateral dialogue and cooperation, representing an important step towards further strengthening the strategic partnership between the Republic of Serbia and the United States of America.

Director Glamočlija emphasised that, since 2002, the Government of the United States of America has been one of the most significant international partners of the Republic of Serbia in addressing the humanitarian and socio-economic consequences of contamination by explosive remnants of war.

„Thanks to continuous financial support, 78 humanitarian demining projects have been implemented, making a significant contribution to reducing ERW contamination and strengthening national capacities in the field of mine action“, said Glamočlija.

He highlighted that, through these projects, an area of approximately 14 million square metres has been addressed, during which around 5,000 items of explosive remnants of war (ERW) were identified and destroyed.

On the margins of the first session of the Strategic Dialogue, a meeting was also held between representatives of the U.S. Department of State and representatives of the Serbian Mine Action Centre. The meeting focused on continuing the long-standing successful cooperation, the implementation of ongoing projects, and future joint activities.
