GICHD Delegation Visits the SMAC
Representatives of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) paid a working visit to the Mine Action Centre, during which they toured the Centre’s premises as well as project sites in the Municipality of Bujanovac where the Non-Technical Survey Project is currently being implemented.
The delegation included an Advisor within the Research and Innovation Programme and an Advisor for Standards and Operations.

The visit was organized with the aim of providing technical and advisory support, as well as assessing the progress of projects implemented in accordance with international standards in the field of mine action.
The first part of the visit focused on the analysis of the information management system, enhancement of the database on suspected hazardous areas, the application of innovative non-technical survey methodologies, and reporting to international organizations.
The second part of the visit included a field inspection of the survey team engaged in the Non-Technical Survey Project in the Municipality of Bujanovac. On that occasion, the representatives were briefed on the results achieved to date and on the planned field activities.

Particular emphasis was placed on analysing existing mechanisms for the management of residual contamination, with precise identification of future needs in order to ensure the sustainability of cleared areas.
The importance of continued expert support and the exchange of knowledge and experience was highlighted, as well as the need for further alignment with international standards and best practices in mine action.
The presence of international experts in the field reaffirms the contribution of the international community to addressing this issue through joint initiatives aimed at strengthening national capacities and enhancing the safety of the local population.
