State Department, US Embassy and ITF Representatives Visit to SMAC

In the period 4-5 September, 2024, representatives of the State Department, the Embassy of the United States of America in Belgrade, together with the delegation of the ITF Enhancing Human Security, visited the Serbian Mine Action Centre and toured the Ponikve Airport.

During the visit, the guests were informed in details about current projects and efforts undertaken by the SMAC to solve problems related to the remaining ERW in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

They discused past achievements, challenges and plans, as well as international trainings that are delivered in the SMAC Innovation-Educational Park.

Also, the guests toured the airport of Ponikve, Užice, and on that occasion the projects that have been implemented, as well as the projects that are planned, were presented.

All these projects contribute to the achievement of the final goal – the further development of the airport.

Bojan Glamočlija, SMAC Director, particularly emphasized the importance of previous donations provided by the United States of America through the ITF. These donations greatly contributed to the SMAC efforts in the implementation of activities in the removal of mines and ERW, which enabled a safe life for many communities in Serbia.

The attendees concluded that continued support and international cooperation in this area is the key to the improvement of security and development of affected areas throughout the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
