SMAC Participation in 27th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers
In the period from April 29 to May 1, 2024, at the Geneva International Conference Center, representatives of the SMAC participated in the 27th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers (NDM-UN27).
The meeting was co-hosted and co-organized by the United Nations Inter-Agency Coordination Group on Mine Action (IACG-MA) and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).
The theme of this year’s meeting was “Protecting Lives. Building Peace.”
National delegations were divided into breakout groups, which discussed topics such as: regional cooperation, mine victim assistance, information management, resource mobilization, as well as program management/creating an enabling environment.
The SMAC representatives had notable interventions within these discussions.
On the margin of the meetings, numerous meetings were held with representatives of the AP Mine Ban Convention Implementation Support Unit, the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining, representatives of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the US State Department, as well as with representatives of other donors and stakeholders.
Representatives of the mine action community had the opportunity to present the achieved results and point out the challenges they face, exchange experiences on the evolution of mine action in the past period, as well as present solutions, obligations and activities that are imposed and which, as the ultimate goal, could help solve the mine problem around the world.
The importance of this event was hihllighted by the fact that the Geneva Jet d’Eau was in the colors of the meeting.
