Site Visit to Non-Technical Survey Project Locations in the Municipality of Bujanovac with International Experts

As part of the implementation of the Non-Technical Survey (NTS) Project in the Municipality of Bujanovac, representatives of the Serbian Mine Action Centre (SMAC) organized a field visit to the project locations together with Helen Gray, International Non-Technical Survey Advisor, and Anna Paiuc, Information Management Advisor at the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), who provides technical support to partners in the implementation of the IMSMA Core information management system.

During the visit, the delegation toured the locations where SMAC’s survey team is conducting non-technical survey activities as part of the project implementation.

In accordance with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS 08.10) for Non-Technical Survey, the survey team has been collecting information on suspected hazardous areas contaminated by mines which is one of the key elements of the land release process.

The visit also included a review and analysis of the data collected during field activities, followed by its entry into the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA Core). Developed for the Serbian Mine Action Centre, IMSMA Core serves as the central platform for the collection, analysis, storage, and management of mine action information.

The field activities and practical application of IMSMA Core reaffirmed the importance of modern data collection and information management methodologies, as well as the value of knowledge exchange and cooperation with international experts. Such collaboration contributes to strengthening Serbia’s national mine action capacities and supports efforts to address remaining mine contamination in accordance with international standards.
