Reception at Mayor of Bujanovac Municipality
In the premises of the Bujanovac Мunicipal Administration, SMAC Director, Mr Bojan Glamočlija, met today with Mayor, Mr Arber Pajaziti, and the Chief of Staff for Emergency Situations, Mr Alija Aslani, to define the specific activities needed for the further implementation of the project.
The aim of the project is to assess the risk in the territory of the Bujanovac Municipality in order to determine the contamination of the land with mines and other explosive remnants of war. By engaging the teams, data will be collected that will help identify risk areas, which will contribute to greater safety of the local population.
The implementation of the project will significantly increase the safety of the citizens of Bujanovac and create conditions for safe exploitation of forests, livestock grazing and mushroom picking, which are the main sources of income for many families in this region.
At the meeting, the importance of applying international standards during the implementation of projects was highlighted, especially in connection with the obligations of the Republic of Serbia according to the Ottawa Convention. This Convention represents a key international framework for the prevention of mine hazards, which additionally contributes to the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
The importance of continued successful cooperation between the SMAC and the Municipality of Bujanovac, which has already produced excellent results in the implementation of previous projects, was emphasized.
