Mine Action Centre Receives Letter of Appreciation from the Municipality of Rakovica
A formal ceremony held at the Rakovica Cultural Centre marked the Day of the Municipality of Rakovica, which was granted municipal status within the City of Belgrade on 16 October 1974.

The date also commemorates the liberation of Rakovica during the Second World War. An additional reason for the celebration is the municipality’s patronal feast day, the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God.

The attendees were addressed by Miloš Simić, President of the Municipality of Rakovica, who presented plans for the municipality’s further development and outlined the key projects expected to be implemented in the coming period.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to individuals, institutions and organisations whose work has contributed to the development of the municipality and the improvement of the local community’s quality of life.
Bojan Glamočlija, Director of the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia, received a Letter of Appreciation in recognition of the Centre’s achievements in the field of safety.

The citation accompanying the award stated that the Letter of Appreciation was presented to the Mine Action Centre:
“In recognition of its outstanding and sustained contribution to enhancing the safety and security of citizens and property within the Municipality of Rakovica. Through the Centre’s proactive efforts, significant donor funding has been secured for projects involving the clearance of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the settlements of Miljakovac 3 and Sunčani Breg, where explosive remnants remained following the 1999 bombing campaign.
Through the dedicated and professional work of the Mine Action Centre’s teams, extensive areas of the Municipality of Rakovica have been successfully cleared and made safe for everyday pedestrian movement, road traffic and further infrastructure development. The Centre is currently successfully managing the fifth phase of the UXO clearance process in areas encompassing parts of Rakovica, thereby continually demonstrating its commitment to protecting the local community and ensuring safety.”
The recognition awarded by the Municipality of Rakovica underscores the importance of the Mine Action Centre’s continued efforts, as well as cooperation between the relevant institutions and international donors in addressing the threat posed by explosive remnants of war and creating a safer environment for local residents.
