4 April – International Day for Mine Awareness – Every cleared square meter is a step towards a safer future

On the occasion of 4 April, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, we reiterate the importance of continuous efforts in eliminating mine-related threats.

This day is not only an opportunity to highlight the risks posed by explosive remnants of war (ERW), which continue to endanger lives, but also to recognize the dedication and professionalism of experts who work daily in the field to ensure safer living conditions for communities.

Despite significant progress in clearing contaminated areas, ERW remain a serious obstacle to the safe development of infrastructure, agriculture, and environmental protection.

Humanitarian demining is an complex process that requires the highest level of precision, strict adherence to international (IMAS) and national standards, as well as the use of modern equipment.

A contemporary approach includes the use of advanced detectors and drones that enable faster and more accurate identification of suspected hazardous areas, continuous capacity building of personnel in line with the latest mine action methodologies, and effective coordination among relevant institutions, contractors, and donors.

Such an integrated approach allows us to elevate demining operations to the highest level of efficiency and safety.

Our common goal is clear – a Serbia free from ERW contamination.

Every cleared square meter of land means one less risk and one more opportunity for community development.

Today, we express our gratitude to deminers for their courage, to donors for their support, and to victims of ERW for their strength and resilience in coping with the consequences.

At the same time, we remind the public of the importance of prevention and education on the dangers posed by ERW.

Through joint efforts, we are creating an environment where every step is safe.
