1,266 Items of UXO Found During the “Sloboda Čačak 10” Project
Following the emergency incidents that occurred in 2021, when a fire and a series of explosions at the “Sloboda” AD Čačak factory resulted in the dispersal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) both within and beyond the factory complex, the Serbian Mine Action Centre conducted reconnaissance of the affected areas and marked the suspected hazardous zones with appropriate warning signs for the public. Based on the findings, the Center prepared projects for the clearance of UXO from the affected areas, with the aim of eliminating risks to public safety, property, and the environment, while creating conditions for their safe future use.
During the implementation of the explosive remnants of war (ERW) clearance project at the “Sloboda Čačak 10” site, a total of 1,266 items of unexploded ordnance (UXO) were discovered.
Through the successful detection, identification, and safe destruction of the recovered UXO—which, due to their condition and unpredictability, posed a significant safety risk—and by applying the highest safety standards and modern detection methods, the project ensured the conditions necessary for the safe execution of all future activities at the site.
