SMAC Participates in Innovation Technical Group Meeting on Information Management and Data Analysis
Representatives of the Republic of Serbia Mine Action Centre (SMAC) participated in an online meeting of the Innovation Technical Group (ITG), dedicated to Information Management and Data Analysis, held on 29 October 2026 and organised by the Mine Action Innovation Hub within the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).
The meeting brought together mine action experts and practitioners to exchange experiences, discuss current challenges and explore opportunities to enhance the use of information management systems in operational decision-making.
A range of important topics was presented and discussed during the meeting, including the implementation of mine action operations in urban environments; improving the accuracy of technical survey and decision-making processes through the application of hazard mapping; the use of temporal analysis of agricultural land recovery to support land release and non-technical survey; as well as the role of the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) and digital transformation in the development of the mine action sector.

Information management plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation of evidence-based mine action. Accurate and up-to-date data enable organisations to plan operations more effectively, establish priorities, monitor progress and results, and make informed decisions based on reliable information.
The Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) supports the collection, management, analysis and use of mine action data, thereby contributing to improved operational planning, better coordination of activities and more efficient allocation of available resources.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore the possibility of developing a dedicated Research Agenda on data-driven decision-making.
This initiative could help identify priority research needs, address common challenges and develop practical solutions to further strengthen and advance mine action.
The participation of representatives of the Republic of Serbia Mine Action Centre in this meeting reaffirms the importance of knowledge and experience sharing, as well as the continuous improvement of information management and the application of data analysis in the field of mine action.
