Visit of Delegation of Army Engineering University of People’s Liberation Army of China to SMAC
On Monday, September 23, 2024, within the visit to the Military Academy of the Defense University Belgrade, a high-level delegation of the Army Engineering University from Nanjing, together with representatives of the Military Academy, visited the Serbian Mine Action Centre.
The mentioned University is the leading military educational institution of the Republic of China and their study programs incorporate the latest technological achievements of scientific disciplines in a wide range of activities, including demining.
The Chinese delegation consisted of 6 members, eminent teachers from the Army Engineering University of the People’s Liberation Army of China from Nanjing, led by the vice-rector Prof. Dr. Yang Hangzhong.
SMAC Director, Mr Bojan Glamočlija, welcomed the representatives of the Military Academy and the delegation from the prestigious Chinese military educational institution, which was followed by a tour of the SMAC Innovation and Educational Park.
During the visit to the Innovation and Education Park, the attendees were introduced to the activities and available capacities of our Center, modern technologies and methods used in the implementation of projects, as well as challenges in humanitarian demining in the Republic of Serbia.
As a continuation of the visit, on Tuesday, September 24, a tour of the site of the ERW clearance project on the gas pipeline route – Eastern Serbia was organized for the guests from the Republic of China, where they had the opportunity to become familiar with the problem of UXO in the entire territory of the Republic of Serbia through a presentation by SMAC Director’s Adviser, Mr Bratislav Rančić, former head of the Directorate for Civil Protection, Sector for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior.
Also, the representatives of the contractor on this project, Millennium Team Company, presented the methods, equipment and devices they use on demining projects, through a presentation of work in the field.
SMAC Director emphasized the importance of international cooperation in this area, stressing that support to mine action activities is crucial for the security and reconstruction of conflict-affected areas.
