Survey at Ponikve Airport
On August 1, 2024, SMAC representatives, in cooperation with the representatives of Airports Serbia Company ltd Niš – Ponikve Airport Užice Service, carried out survey of the damaged parts of the runway at the Ponikve Airport, which are suspected of being contaminated by unexploded ordnance during the bombing in 1999, and which were not subject to clearance in the previous period.
The activities were undertaken aiming at a comprehensive survey of the area and determination of the level of contamination in order to develop clearance project.
Given that the Government of the Republic of Serbia has invested 300 million dinars in Ponikve Airport with the aim of finally putting this airport into commercial use and that the remaining part of the runway will be rehabilitated, so that the entire runway with a length of 3,087 meters will be put into operation, as well as the construction of a new runway with the aircraft parking platform, in order to enable the safe execution of the planned works, prerequisites must be created in terms of ERW protection.
