Introduction into works and continuation of the implementation of ERW clearance projects at the “New Sava bridge” location

The implementation of the Project for the clearance of explosive remnants of war at the “New Sava bridge – land part” location, which was developed by the Mine Action Centre based on the request of the Investor – Belgrade Land Development Public Agency, began on July 15, 2024, with the introduction of contractor, company “Millennium Team” d.o.o., Belgrade.

The clearance of the area around the Sava Bridge is divided into two projects, which include the removal of ERW from the land part on the left and right banks of the Sava River, as well as the removal of ERW from the water surface below and around the Sava Bridge.

The Mine Action Centre performed the necessary checks and controls of the personnel and equipment that will be used to remove ERW from the water part, as part of the second project at this location, which created the conditions for the continuation of the project and the introduction of divers according to phase II of the ERW Clearance Project at the ” New Sava bridge – water part” location.

The area to be cleared is located on the territory of the city of Belgrade, between the Old Sava Bridge and Branko`s bridge.

On the site of the Old Sava Bridge, the construction of a New Bridge over the Sava River is planned, with a length of about 420m.

The construction of the New Bridge represents a significant engineering and logistical undertaking that has far-reaching advantages for the city and its inhabitants, as well as for the regional development of the Republic of Serbia.

The improvement of transport infrastructure will affect traffic in the city, reduce congestion on existing bridges and improve the connectivity of different parts of the city, which will contribute to better mobility of residents and facilitate daily activities.

After clearance of these surfaces of ERW, the danger they pose to people and the environment will be removed, it will contribute to increasing the safety of residents and creating opportunities for the safe construction of the New Sava bridge and further infrastructure development.
