Explosive Ordnance Found at the “Ponikve – 4” Project Site

During the implementation of the demining project “Clearance of Cluster Munitions from the Site ‘Ponikve Airport – 4’”, in the City of Užice, developed by the Serbian Mine Action Centre, explosive remnants of war (ERW) and various types of ammunition were discovered within the area of the former “Ponikve” airport.

A total of 9 MK1 cluster bombs, 100 rounds of 23 mm ammunition, 150 rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, 19 empty 23 mm cartridge cases with unfired primers, and 5 loose 23 mm projectiles were found.

These findings highlight the importance and necessity of conducting demining and clearance projects to remove explosive remnants of war, thereby increasing public safety and creating the conditions for the safe use and further development of the area of the former “Ponikve” airport.

Members of the Emergency Management Sector of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia safely removed the discovered ERW and will carry out their destruction under controlled conditions, in full accordance with prescribed safety procedures.
