Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia Hosts Innovation Technical Group Working Meeting
The Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia has been selected as Co-Chair of the Innovation Technical Group (ITG), an operational body working in cooperation with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).
The ITG serves as a global technical group within the Mine Action Innovation Hub, bringing together national mine action authorities, research and technology organisations, academia, and other experts. The Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia is an active member of the Group.
On 8 and 9 September 2026, Belgrade hosted the official working ITG meeting, bringing together numerious representatives of national mine action centres, ministries and other government institutions, as well as relevant international organisations.

The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the field of innovation in mine action, as well as to identify specific operational challenges requiring new technological and other innovative solutions.
During the first day of the meeting, participants discussed innovation management within national mine action structures, their capacity needs and gaps, as well as specific operational challenges faced by national institutions and international organisations.

Through thematic working groups, participants further examined and refined specific operational problems that could be referred to the research and technology community for the development of appropriate innovative solutions.

On the second day, the results of the thematic working groups were presented, followed by discussions on the ITG’s activity plan for 2027.

A special part of the programme was a visit to the Innovation and Education Park of the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia, where participants had the opportunity to learn about the Centre’s available training capacities.

At the training ground, company Ebinger also presented an innovative solution — a new model of a detector mounted on a drone.

Hosting this international meeting in Belgrade, together with the participation of representatives of the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia as Co-Chairs of the ITG, represents significant recognition of the Republic of Serbia’s professional and institutional capacities and provides an additional impetus for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of humanitarian mine action.
