Internship Program for Students of the Faculty of Security Studies
Students of the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade, successfully completed their internship at the Innovation and Educational Park of the Mine Action Center of the Republic of Serbia.
The internship program represents an important step in bridging the gap between the theoretical knowledge acquired during academic studies and the practical experience required for carrying out real-world tasks in the fields of humanitarian demining and addressing the challenges posed by explosive remnants of war (ERW).

During the internship, students had the opportunity to become familiar with the responsibilities and organizational structure of the Mine Action Center of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the roles of other competent institutions involved in addressing ERW-related issues in the Republic of Serbia.
The students were introduced to the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), relevant international conventions, and the IMSMA Core information management system, which includes a database used for the collection, processing, and analysis of mine action data.
As part of the theoretical component of the program, students gained knowledge of explosive materials and their application in munitions, the classification and characteristics of ordnance, their functional components, as well as explosive remnants of war, anti-personnel mines, and anti-tank mines.
Particular attention was devoted to procedures for responding to the discovery of ERW.

The practical part of the program included demonstrations of personal protective equipment, demining tools, and specialized equipment used in mine action operations.
Students were introduced to the organization of a demining worksite, operational procedures employed during demining and clearance activities, and methods for the detection, identification, and safe disposal of explosive remnants of war.
Through practical exercises, work in a simulated demining lane, and field searches using specialized equipment, students gained hands-on experience in applying procedures used in humanitarian demining operations.

In addition, participants were introduced to general and technical survey procedures, the preparation and development of demining projects, and all phases of project implementation, from risk assessment and data collection to land clearance and the final evaluation of completed activities.
Through this internship program, students acquired valuable practical knowledge and skills, enhanced their understanding of contemporary challenges in mine action, and developed greater awareness of the importance of safe and responsible conduct when dealing with explosive remnants of war.
