Strengthening National Capacities – Training for Members of the Serbian Armed Forces

With the aim of strengthening national capacities in mine action, the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia organized a specialized training course for members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the field of quality control in explosive ordnance clearance.

The training was conducted at the Innovation and Education Park of the Mine Action Centre and focused on providing participants with both theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to operate in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).

As part of the training program, participants visited operational work sites at the location where the demining project – cluster munition clearance “Borovac–6” is being implemented in the municipality of Bujanovac. During this visit, they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with quality control procedures and methodologies under real operational conditions.

The field visit also included a meeting with contractors performing clearance operations, during which the participants were introduced to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and national standards regulating all phases of humanitarian demining on civilian land in the Republic of Serbia.

Special attention was given to the application of modern technologies in humanitarian demining. A lecture was delivered on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for terrain reconnaissance, mapping of suspected hazardous areas, and analysis of collected data.

The practical part of the training also included hands-on work with explosive ordnance detectors.

Upon completion of the training and successful passing of the final examination, the Director of the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Bojan Glamoclija, presented the participants with certificates.

Continuous education and the exchange of knowledge between the military sector, civilian demining organizations, and the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia are of key importance for strengthening national capacities.

Activities such as these represent an important step in the further development and improvement of the mine action system in the Republic of Serbia.
