Commencement of ERW Clearance Project at “New Cemetery – Mogila” Site in Požarevac
The introduction into works of the demining team of NGO “In Demining” from Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, saw the commencement of the implementation of the Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Clearance Project at the “New Cemetery – Mogila” Site, No. 0242/21-1, City of Požarevac.
Based on the request of the Public Utility Company “Communal Services”, the Mine Action Center of the Republic of Serbia has developed a project totalling 12,180 m2 and will perform quality control of the work carried out.
Upon clearance of the site, the danger posed by ERW to people and the environment will be eliminated, and it will contribute to increasing the safety of local population and creating opportunities for safe land use and further infrastructure development.
It will also enable workers of the Public Utility Company “Communal Services” Požarevac to safely perform funerals and construct graves.
As a reminder, in 2023, the Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Clearance Project was implemented at the “New Cemetery – Mogila”, No, 0243/21, City of Požarevac, where 17 pieces of explosive remnants of war – 122 mm shells – were found and destroyed.
