Commencement of Works in accordance with ERW Clearance Project at Philip Morris Tobacco Factory Site in Niš

Implementation of ERW Clearance Project at the Philip Morris Tobacco Factory Site in Niš, No. 0312/24, which the SMAC developed according to the request of the Niš based “Philip Morris International” Company commenced on August 6, 2024.

SMAC performed the examination and control of the personnel and equipment that will be used on the project, which created the conditions for the Belgrade based contractor Saturnia ltd. to be introduced into works.

Suspected area is located within the compound of the Philip Morris Factory where the expansion of production capacities is planned.

Given that the Philip Morris Factory is located in the compound of the former Niš Tobacco Factory which was targeted on several occasions during 1999 with aerial bombs and cluster munitions, as well as in the immediate vicinity of large industrial plants, airports and military facilities which were also targeted in 1999,  the project area was estimated to be suspected.

Implementation of this Project will eliminate dangers to people, property and the environment from ERW and create conditions for the investor to safely plan and execute subsequent earthworks up to the designed depth.
